Here goes:
CLUE: a ‘self-proclaimed’ planner girl
ANSWER: Emily @plans.with.emilyanne
Planning has always been part of Emily’s life. At a young age, she was already a self-proclaimed “planner girl”. Every year she would pick out a new planner at Barnes & Noble, which she carried everywhere, and filled with daily entries and thoughts. That love only grew during her middle and high school years with a school planner always by her side. But everything changed when she stumbled across a Pinterest blog post featuring a Filofax personal rings binder. It was love at first sight, and for her 18th birthday, she treated herself to her very first Filofax (an A5 Saffiano Pear). Later, while searching for planner inspiration online, she found the planner community and never looked back. Today, the community has become such a big part of her life and she even owns her own shop.
For Emily, planning is a way to clear the mental clutter. Putting her thoughts, plans, and reminders onto paper gives her mind room to breathe — plus there’s just something so satisfying about pen on paper. But after she discovered decorative planning, it took her love of planners to another level - it turned an everyday functional habit into a creative outlet. She has developed a process that not only works for her but also makes her happy when she flips through the pages. When setting up a new month, she starts with a pre-made list of important dates—paydays, birthdays, church services, and social events—and plugs everything into the monthly spread first. From there, she likes to decorate with a cohesive seasonal theme by gathering inspiration from Pinterest and coordinating the cover, dashboards, clips, and charms which creates a complete look. For example, her January’s setup featured icy pale blues and soft pinks in a winter theme.
Her go-to planner essentials reflect that balance between function and creativity: black ink gel pens (currently obsessed with the Sharpie S-Gel), washi tape, and plenty of stickers. She is currently enjoying a small Day Designer as an everyday carry. Simply Gilded is her favorite washi brand and she also often mixes in some Happy Planner stickers from her stash along with originals from her own Etsy shop.
